'Building Project'의 일환으로 만들어진 Union은 전통 한옥의 '공포' 부분에서 영감을 받아 현대적으로 재해석한 작품입니다. '공포'란 전통 목조 건축에서 처마의 무게를 받치기 위해 짜 맞추어 댄 나무 부재를 통틀어 일컫는데, 우주 상부나 추녀 같이 장식으로 생각하기 쉽지만 자세히 들여다보면 구조적인 역할을 겸하고 있으며, 결구 방식 또한 인상적입니다.

Created as part of the Building Project, Union is a modern reinterpretation inspired by the ‘Gong-po’[arch window] section of traditional Korean houses. In traditional wooden architecture, ‘Gong-po’ refers to the wooden components woven to support the weight of the eaves. They are usually regarded as decoration, such as the upper part of ‘Wu-ju’[corner pillar] or ‘Chu-nyeo’[corner of eaves], but when you look closely, you will find that they also serve a structural role, and the construction method is noteworthy.

'Building Project' is a series of creations inspired by the combination of many forms, structures, and numerous layers that HYUNJONG KIM has experienced in architecture.
